Try Giving It Away (Starting Out Series for Massage Therapists)

Apr 8, 2017 9:00:00 AM by MTTI
Every successful full-time massage therapist I've met has one thing in common: They all started their careers by giving some massage away.  It may sound counter-intuitive but giving away free massage can be one of the most effective ways to build your business . Of course, as massage therapists, we all need to eat; it's important to know what your boundaries are in terms of how much pro-bono massage you can afford to do. But especially for the new therapist who doesn't yet have an established client base, donating your time and skills to members of your community can be a great way to get hands-on practice and get some great reviews circulating in your name.

Starting Out Series: Mobile Massage

Mar 13, 2017 8:01:00 AM by MTTI
Many new massage therapists start out doing "mobile massage" -- taking their massage table or chair to a client's home or business. A mobile massage business has many benefits for the new therapist, but how do you get this type of practice started?

Massage Therapy Supports Mobility

Mar 6, 2017 8:04:00 AM by MTTI
As a massage therapist, I've had clients with so many different jobs come into my office. One thing I can tell you is that no matter what you do for a living, everyone's job is hard on their body.

The CDC recommends that adults from ages 18 to 64 years old get at least 2.5 hours of moderate aerobic exercise per week. (Greater benefits can be gained by working out for longer or at a higher intensity and including strength training in your routine.) Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to fit even that amount of exercise into a busy schedule. But exercise is important because it means a break in your physical routine -- and so can massage.

Five Things I Love About Being a Massage Therapist

Feb 15, 2017 3:43:57 PM by MTTI

Becoming a massage therapist is one of the best decisions I ever made. There are lots of things I love about it, but here are my Top Five.

1. Making a Positive Difference

Before going to massage school, I worked at an office from nine-to-five. My job was to collect information about children’s summer camps. Although I knew that my work might be helping families somewhere down the line, mostly I just saw spreadsheets. As a massage therapist, I get to see the positive impact of my work every day. There’s nothing like seeing a client get off my table smiling and sparkly-eyed after a massage, saying, “I didn’t know my body could feel that good!” or “Wow, I can turn my head again!”

Did you know that barely more than 50% of students who enroll at a four-year college actually finish with a degree? It’s not uncommon for students to struggle in traditional high school and college classrooms. For some, a very different type of learning environment might be a better fit.

You Might Make a Great Massage Therapist If…

Jul 23, 2016 8:30:00 AM by Massage Therapy Training Institute
Massage therapy students come from all walks of life. Some have a passion for bodywork and enter massage school right after high school . Others choose massage therapy as a second or third career later in life , or study massage as a supplement to another professional skill. Massage therapists are typically seen as caring, nurturing, intuitive, and helpful, but there are a number of other qualities that also make a great massage therapist.
